When I was growing up we grew our own vegetables and we raised animals. Always having fresh eggs was something I knew to appreciate, and now I miss them!
Today, we never seem to be aware of where our food comes from, or how the animals were raised. I want to show my sons the old ways so they are capable of having and providing the very best.
I really want to build up my little bite of heaven, and turn it into a self-sufficient and self-sustaining paradise, but I have an HOA to worry about, so we’re keeping it classy. I want to raise the best that I can afford.
So a few days ago we went. to the local feed store and bought 12 chicks. They were labelled as all hens, and ameraucana, but I’m sure they’re not going to be champion show birds. I can’t wait for those fresh eggs!
The “winter” gardening season is upon us already, but I have barely done a thing in the garden. I do have a reasonable excuse: an infant son! I’m a homeschooling, homesteading mom of 2 boys, and 12 hens!
